Pre-Construction Value Engineering
The greatest opportunity to influence the cost, buildability and programme of a groundworks package is before construction starts.
Early engagement allows IronRock to interrogate the engineering design before it becomes a site constraint.
We have our own established design, consultancy and commercial teams, enabling us to work collaboratively from the earliest stages of a project. Equally, we are experienced in working alongside a client’s appointed engineers, consultants, quantity surveyors and wider design team.
Our pre-construction review considers the complete groundworks strategy, including:
- Drainage design, depths and gradients
- Foul and surface water strategy
- Attenuation and SuDS
- External levels
- Earthworks modelling and cut/fill balance
- Foundation solutions
- Retaining structures
- Temporary works
- Ground improvement
- Road construction
- Adoptable infrastructure
- Material specifications
- Utility interfaces
- Construction methodology
- Site logistics and access
- Plant strategy
- Sequencing and phasing
- Programme
- Commercial risk
We actively challenge design where an alternative solution can:
We actively challenge design where an alternative solution can improve buildability, reduce excavation, simplify temporary works, reduce material movements or shorten the programme.
Early contractor involvement also allows construction methodology to inform design decisions before they are fixed — particularly on technically challenging sites involving deep drainage, significant level changes, complex attenuation, retaining structures or constrained access.
Our commercial team works alongside our engineers and operational teams to test solutions against both cost and programme.
Send us your drawings before the design is fixed.
